Ostrich

Linnaean Classification: Eukarya, Animalia, Chordata, Vertebrata, Aves, Struthionidae, Struthio camelus

Regulator because ostriches do not change their internal temperature as a result of change in the temperature of the environment.

Neither because ostriches do not migrate nor do they hibernate; at times, ostriches will travel short distances if there is a shortage in food.

Specialists because of what ostriches eat and how they eat. Ostriches mainly eat shrubs, flowers, or native insects. Because they do not have teeth, ostriches must swallow stones to help grind their food, therefore they need to live in an area with small enough pebbles as well as the food they eat.

Consumer because ostriches cannot consume their own food and must obtain energy from consuming other organisms.

Omnivore because ostriches typically eat plants, roots, and seeds but will also eat insects, lizards, or other creatures available in their sometimes harsh habitat.

Niche: Ostriches mostly live in Sub-Saharan African grasslands and savannahs. They are terrestrial, diurnal animals that feed on shrubs, flowers, grasses, and some insects. Ostriches will also use small stones to help grind their food.
